Finished!  The 6' oar that Pete picked up for me at the Maritime Auction last fall is finished!  I added the finishing touches to the crab, and decided the handle needed something - so I researched grasses found in the Chesapeake Bay, and found this seaweed version.  I think it definitely adds that "it needs something else" factor.....Let me know what you think!

Sometimes the urge to paint takes over.  This is an old 6' oar in progress.

Not much new on the Arts front due to the busy, busy holiday season.  I did design 2 new Christmas cards though - One for personal use and one for MathewsBros.

Sorry for the yellow coloring - Hopefully I can get clearer pictures soon.

This is my own personal set of dishes that I designed and then hand-painted. First major use was for Thanksgiving Dinner!

Fall Leaf Dish
After checking out a Ceramic Arts weekly review, I decided to try this dish which is a slab built cylinder, pinched at the bottom to create the feet, and then stretched out to give it character (I also did a little carving to make the feet taller).  This one is bigger than the ones below and is too dry to attach anything to but I'm planning to turn the two below into mugs.
Don't let my poor photo lighting get you - this is loafers clay and will look completely different when glazed (and photographed in a better light!)

As you can see, we have lots drying and waiting to be fired!

In a Fall frame of mind

I don't know what has gotten in to me, but I am definitely in a Fall frame of mind!  I tend to go with whatever makes me feel creative, and right now, it's Fall and pumpkins on the brain.  I have a volunteer gourd plant in my front garden and have made a mold with many different sizes of leaves from it.  In my opinion, the detail cannot be matched! I'm getting ready to make a mold from a much larger leaf to be able to create a bowl from it, so stay tuned to see if I can pull it off!

This cookie jar is larger than it seems - see it in the background of the other pumpkins?

I cannot believe it's August 1 already!  My day job has kept me extremely busy so far this year, but I have managed to find a little bit of time for the studio.

Below you'll see a few things that came out of the baby kiln, and a few more things that are getting ready to go in....fall is fast approaching!!

I have gotten a bit more accomplished and actually had another blog ready to post but it saved as a draft!  These are the latest pieces that have come out of the kiln beautiful.  A lot of them are in The Treasure Chest in Oxford, MD - just in time for everyone coming down for fireworks!

Well, here is a peek at the top layer of the kiln!  We'll be unloading this afternoon, but at first glance it looks like our first Glaze Fire in the "baby" kiln has gone well!

Check back in for more pics after we unload later on!
