The eye makes all the difference!

When I approach a new painting, I am fanatical about proportions - so much so that I will grid my subject to be sure I'm not going to end up with something out of whack.
My background is then put in so I don't worry about having to  run it into my finished subject.  I always try to keep in mind the lights and darks in my background so my subject stands out when completed.
But the first thing I always paint on my subject is the eye - if the eye isn't alive, the painting won't be.
I'll post my finished painting shortly.....stay tuned!
